In 1993, a concerned group of textile manufacturers and businesses across North Carolina came together to fund the North Carolina Center for Applied Textile Technology Foundation. The Textile Technology Center, established in 1943, had never in its existence operated with the assistance of county or municipal funds. Instead the institution relied solely on state support and private donations when they were available.
Supporters set out to sustain the training efforts and business support services that the Center conducted. These same textile and business leaders had come to rely on the Center for employee training and technical assistance. They like the Center's flexibility in working with employee schedules and its personal attention to students situations.
Supporters created the North Carolina Center for Applied Textile Technology Foundation as a separate, private entity capable of raising, accounting for and applying funds to support the Center. The Foundation provides assistance for faculty and staff development programs and supports them in their affiliations with professional organizations such as The American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists and the Southern Textile Association among others. In addition the Foundation helps the Center participate in worthwhile projects for the Community such as the Crop Walk.
